that album (Coma of Souls) and the one before (Extreme Aggression) are fucking unbelievable.
tight as Thew's ass, scorching guitar, and Mille's vocals were the BEST!
one band I was in, I kinda "borrowed" his vocal style.
tried to do the same with the guitar stlye, but it'd take me 100 years to pull it off.
I went with a really, really ealry Kreator guitar style for the solos (read: fast, sloppy, lots of whammy bar).
Yep those were good albums too ... still have them on vynil !!!
I am ready to bet, if Kreator were based in the USA they would be up there with Slayer ... Germany was a great scene at the time, but the infrastructure is still miles away from the US's.

Hellhammer (pre-Celtic Frost) was killer too.

nope i was wrong...Peeker wins. Napalm Deaths 'scum' was the first official release of the corperate Earache label in summer 1986
however, the first band signed to the eaqrache label was The Accused...arguably their release would have been the first (the return oif martha splatterhead) but the release of the album was delayed by a small impending court case.
that said, Digby's (founder of earache) first band he ever released a disc for was Heresy - Never Healed. The earache label was in the works, but this cd (as well as 2 various artist cds) were released prior to that.

Alters of Madness was released in 1989, but i believe they had a 4 song EP out a year or so before that.
